Life in the Garden:how to create a herbarium ?
OBJECTIVES :
to grasp information from the garden plants observation
to create a herbarium
MATERIALS :
Plants and tree leaves collected on a walk in the garden
Adhesive tape
Scissors
Newspaper
Sheets of hard paper
PROCEDURES :

1. Collecting plants in the garden
Choose a species showing the different parts of the plants : fruits, flowers and underground part cleared of all earth traces. As for the trees, take the leaves, fruits and seeds if possible.
Put the samples between newspaper sheets. Identify them correctly with a plant guide.
2. Drying up the collected plants
Spread neatly the plants between newspaper sheets. Put the plants to bed in a press or under heavy books.
3.the herbarium assembly
Once the plants or leaves are dried up, fix them on a sheet of hard paper with thin stripes of adhesive tape.
Indicate for each plant species its common and scientific names, the environment where it grows and other complementary information.
Do not forget to fix the fruit or the seed at the bottom of the sheet, to the right of the plant.
